Las Vegas Orthodontist In The Community

Here at Desert Orthodontics we like to be involved in our Las Vegas community. Recently we asked children that visit our practice to write a letter to our office about what they are thankful for.

We would like to congratulate Jorge Ayala for writing a beautiful letter to our office. Below is his letter to our office.

Most people don't understand the real things that you should be thankful for. It's not about getting presents on Christmas or getting candy on Halloween. You should be thankful for the things that can't be bought or rapped up in rapping paper with a bow.

The things that I am thankful for are the things that come in the goodness in the hearts of people that you care about like your friends and family. I'm thankful for family members that try their hardest to find the positive things in a tough situation. An example of this is how my aunt and cousins were planning on coming to our house for Thanksgiving, but they just found out that my cousins baby who is 2, who has been sick almost every time we've seen him, has a type of cancer called Leukemia as of 11/13/09. As much as they'd hate to leave him behind, they are still going to try to leave that behind them and leave him at the hospital with his mom while they still drive to our house for Thanksgiving.

I'm also thankful for our troops in Iraq, the army, the navy, and the military service who fight for our country's rights and for letting us live the way that we can, unlike other places like Africa who wake up to a life without any one to take care of them, feed them, or to have a healthy lifestyle. I'm thanful for food that i eat everyday that my mom cooks for my family, I'm thankful for a warm cozy home to sleep in or to stay in when there is bad weather outside, and I am thankful for a family that takes care of eachother when someone is sick, doesn't know where to turn to, and who takes in their parents inside their homes when thay grow old. But, the most important thing that I am thankful for s the holidays. The reason why I am thankful for the holidays is because it's the time of the year where my family gets together and forgets about divorces, sicknesses and the frustrations of lifes ups and downs and we come together to occampany one another, and show eachother love and compassion. From brother to sister, mother to daughter, father to son, cousins niece or nephews, we all come together to be thankful for letting our family live another year and for letting us share these occasions as one family. Together, no matter what obstacles stand in our way, we face these together, as a family.

In the end, I am thankful for a lot of things but these were the most important ones. These are truly the most important things that I am thankful for.

Las Vegas Orthodontics Practice Reviews Holiday Care Tips.

Orthodontist in Las Vegas discusses ways to avoid tooth decay.

It’s the holiday season and there are lots of sweet and sugary foods around.  If a food highly consistent of sugar is stuck to your teeth for more than 20 minutes you may risk a breakdown of tooth enamel, which can lead to tooth decay and/or gum disease.

We recommend that patients avoid chewing on candy cane or hard candy – these types of “sweets” can cause the most damage. If you are eating foods high in sugar and starch we recommend that you brush your teeth immediately and/or rinse your mouth with water.

Also, it is very important for you to maintain your regular checkups with your dentist. If you have any more questions please call us at 702.463.7400 or visit Las Vegas Orthodontist.

Las Vegas Orthodontist Reviews The Right Diet While Wearing Braces.

If your current diet consists of sticky and hard foods you can potentially affect your brackets on your braces , loosen your bands or reshape your wires, thus, leading to an extended amount of time you will need treatment. Of course, we always recommend that you limit the amount of sugar in your diet. Typically, foods that are high in sugar are also sticky.
Softer foods that are low in sugar are better, but you are not limited to those types of foods. Our practice recommends that you steer clear of the following foods:
Brittle
Hard Candy
Raw Carrots
Bubble Gum
Chips
Nuts
Popcorn

Las Vegas Orthodontist Discusses Health Benefits of Straight Teeth

Beyond the aesthetic benefits of straight teeth, orthodontic treatments can help an individual bite and chew more effectively. In addition to an improved bite, some patients speech improve. Straightened teeth results in long term oral health due to a proper alignment of jaw that may alleviate any problems.

Furthermore, straightened teeth can lead to less dental visits and oral problems simply because individuals have better flossing and brushing performance.  It is easier for patients to floss and rid of plaque when their teeth are aligned. There are many options for treatments such as Invisalign Las Vegas.
